Did you know that the University of Guelph currently invests its endowment funds in some of the world's largest oil, gas and coal companies including Exxon Mobil and Suncor? These fossil fuel giants are the world's greatest perpetrators of global climate change and we believe that it is fundamentally unethical for the university to profit from the expansion of this industry.

 

Especially in light of the tragic extreme weather events of the last few years, we believe that the impacts of climate change are a pressing reality and that there is an urgent need for us to react as a society. The most important step toward reducing global greenhouse gas emissions is to curb the growth of the fossil fuel industry. And we can do this by challenging the dominance of large fossil fuel companies in our economy!

 

We are asking the University of Guelph to freeze new investments in fossil fuel companies and, over a five year period, divest from them completely.
